Life in the Maya World


Guided by a Maya archaeologist your pupils will explore a range of themes, including - architecture, clothing, comparing rich and poor in the Maya world, technologies, Maya Gods and mythology, foods, agriculture and trade. 


For multiple form entry schools we give your pupils a full day experience with a choice a  of resourced in-class activities to delve deeper into the life of the ancient Maya and how archaeologists work to understand them.




Online


All online sessions are run by our Maya archaeologist. Your school will be the only participants on the call to allow time for your pupils questions. Sessions last 30-60 minutes.


Ask an Archaeologist (30-60 minutes)

This session can be tailored to your specific needs where pupils are given an introduction and shown objects from the Maya world and can ask questions about the ancient Maya, this session can be joined by several classes at once.

 

The Popul Vuh (30 -40 minutes for one class, 60 minutes for multiple classes)

Join Maya archaeologist Vanessa for a retelling of the Popul Vuh followed by a question and answer session. 


Explore!

Work with a real archaeologist to discover how archaeologists find new sites in the dense Maya jungle, learn to identify buried ruins and how new technology is used in the dense jungle. This session uses Nearpod.

 

Gods

The Maya have over many different gods, uncover how we identify them and get to know some of the key gods in more depth. Then compare these to the gods of the Vikings. Complete your session with a question and answer session with a Maya archaeologist.
